Web Cash in Canada: Redemption Cutoffs and Bank Payouts
Web Cash is BCLC's prepaid voucher for funding a PlayNow gambling account, not an e-wallet that receives withdrawals. Before paying, check its discontinuation notice and ask PlayNow whether your voucher can still be redeemed, because official phase-out instructions conflict.

Check the Discontinuation Notice Before Buying
PlayNow's consumer notice lists May 31, 2026 as the last purchase date and August 1, 2026 at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time as the redemption cutoff. Both dates have passed as of October 16, 2026. The same page retains wording saying vouchers do not expire, so that wording should not be treated as confirmation that online redemption remains available.
BCLC's retailer document gives different instructions: it describes May 31 as a sell-through target, a tentative fall 2026 redemption cutoff, and manual processing through Customer Support after the platform changes. These sources do not establish one consistent final redemption date. Ask PlayNow which instructions apply to your voucher rather than relying on a retailer's remaining stock.
Do not buy a second-hand code or pay someone to exchange an unused voucher. Keep the original voucher and purchase receipt, and request written instructions from support before surrendering either. Ask whether the proposed resolution is an account credit or a refund, where the money will go, and what evidence you must provide.
Confirm the Operator, Province and Account Eligibility
Canada has no single national online-casino regulator. Provincial and territorial authority determines who may conduct and manage gambling, while federal anti-money-laundering requirements also apply. In British Columbia, the Independent Gambling Control Office oversees gambling, including BCLC; it identifies PlayNow as the province's only permitted regulated online gambling website. A payment logo does not establish that another casino is authorized.
This guide concerns BCLC's British Columbia voucher product, not every payment service with a similar name. BCLC's account rules require players to be at least 19, reside in British Columbia and be physically in the province when gambling. BCLC verifies registration information and can request further documentation. Paying cash at a shop does not make the gambling account anonymous.
If another casino lists Web Cash, ask for the issuer's legal name, its actual funding instructions and the separate withdrawal route. Outside British Columbia, check your own province's authorized gambling arrangements before purchasing any payment product. Do not interpret a familiar cashier label as proof that a BCLC voucher will work there.
How Deposits Worked and Why the Balance Was Restricted
Historically, players purchased a $25 voucher at a participating retailer using cash, debit or credit. The retail payment bought the voucher; it did not itself credit the gambling account. The player then signed in to PlayNow, revealed the 14-digit code and entered it on the deposit page. Treat these as historical instructions, not confirmation that the cashier still accepts codes.
After redemption, the money entered the account's Non-Withdrawable Cash balance. BCLC's agreement requires Web Cash deposits to be played at least once before they become eligible for withdrawal. This restriction applies to the deposited money itself, rather than only to an optional promotional bonus.
A $25 deposit therefore required $25 in qualifying wagers, not $25 in profit; tokens and free play did not count. Completing that requirement did not guarantee that $25 would remain, because wagers could lose. If your aim is to recover unused money rather than gamble, ask support about its treatment before placing bets solely to clear the restriction. Do not assume a successful redemption means the full displayed balance can immediately leave the account.
Withdrawals Use a Separate Bank Payment
Web Cash is not a payout destination. First, check the amount available for withdrawal rather than relying on the total account balance. Next, follow the withdrawal instructions for your bank account. PlayNow's published help describes electronic funds transfer to a bank as the ordinary withdrawal route, not cash collection from the voucher retailer or payment onto another voucher.
Check the account-holder name and banking details before submitting the request. BCLC generally requires an acceptable Canadian financial account on which you are the primary holder or a recognized authorized user. It can request identity and security documentation, and its help page requires occupation information before withdrawal if it is not already recorded. The retailer does not approve this payout.
PlayNow publishes an allowance of up to three business days for BCLC processing, followed typically by approximately one business day for the bank credit. These are separate stages, not a guaranteed arrival time, and they do not establish a deadline for manually resolving an old voucher. If money is late, ask whether the request is awaiting documents, awaiting approval, already sent or returned by the bank; keep the transaction reference for follow-up.
Separate Fees, Limits and Payment Blocks
BCLC advertised Web Cash as having no usage fee, but buying a voucher on credit could still attract issuer charges. Do not confuse a fee-free deposit with cost-free borrowing. For any replacement method, check both the cashier's charges and your bank's terms, including whether a transaction is treated as a cash advance. PlayNow explicitly warns that some credit-card issuers apply that treatment.
Do not import a blanket credit-card ban from another country's gambling rules: PlayNow's published deposit options include credit cards. That listing does not guarantee approval by your issuer. If a payment is blocked, ask the provider for the reason rather than disguising the transaction or moving it through another service to defeat the restriction.
PlayNow requires a weekly deposit limit, and increases take approximately 24 hours to become effective. Check your remaining allowance rather than treating a voucher's denomination as permission to deposit. For manual voucher processing, ask support how any resulting credit interacts with your limits; the published phase-out instructions do not specify that treatment.
Chargebacks are not a withdrawal method. BCLC's agreement permits account suspension while a chargeback dispute is resolved. Report genuinely unauthorized payments accurately, but do not describe an authorized gambling loss as fraud. Missing verification, suspected prohibited activity or a payment intended for someone else can also obstruct payout approval.
Resolve Unused Vouchers Without Adding More Money
For an unused voucher, request the manual handling described in BCLC's retailer guidance. For money already credited, ask support to distinguish unused deposits, restricted funds and withdrawable winnings before proposing a solution. Do not assume an ordinary withdrawal request will resolve all three. Obtain a case number and ask which documents are outstanding, whether a fee applies, and when you should follow up; no manual-processing service time is published in that guidance.
If you are enrolled in BCLC's Game Break self-exclusion program, contact support about returning funds rather than trying another account or payment method. Game Break blocks account access and includes arrangements for returning account money. Do not resume gambling just to settle a voucher problem or satisfy a wagering restriction.
- Keep the original voucher, receipt and any redemption error message.
- Record whether the disputed amount is unredeemed, credited or already requested for withdrawal.
- Ask support to confirm the destination, restrictions, charges and expected handling time.
- Share voucher codes and identity documents only through the official support channel.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still buy Web Cash for a new casino deposit?
Do not buy without confirmation from PlayNow. Its consumer cutoff has passed, while retailer phase-out guidance differs. Neither remaining stock nor an old cashier listing proves current acceptance.
What should I do with an unused Web Cash voucher?
Keep it and contact PlayNow support. BCLC's retailer guidance provides for manual processing after the platform change, but does not promise a particular refund destination or processing time.
Can winnings be paid back to my Web Cash voucher?
No. PlayNow's ordinary withdrawal route is a separate electronic funds transfer to a bank account, subject to its withdrawal policies.
Does paying with cash let me avoid identity verification?
No. BCLC can require identification and supporting documents regardless of how you funded the account. Casinos also have federal identity-verification and ongoing-monitoring obligations.
Should I make another deposit to fix a delayed withdrawal?
Do not send more money as a troubleshooting step. Ask support to identify the exact hold, missing document or banking problem and explain the resolution in writing.
